Michael Bennett dressed for every game last year. He made the road trips. The coaches kept talking about how well he was doing in practice.
But as Allen Iverson would say, it’s only practice. Bennett, the freshman receiver, never played, and figured all along he would redshirt.
That makes this spring a bit different for Bennett.
“It’s just a lot more pressure on me,” he said. “But I feel like I’m embracing that and stepping up to the occasion, just really making plays out there.”
The 6-foot-3 product of Alpharetta got his wake-up call the first day of spring practice, when the receivers rolled out to the field without the likes of A.J. Green and Kris Durham. It hit Bennett that his time was coming.
“I was running (with) the twos, and I was like, Man I haven’t run with the twos in a while,” Bennett said. “So you’ve just gotta calm yourself down.”
Bennett is playing the “X” receiver spot, which lines up on the side closest to the boundary. He got good reviews for his performance in Saturday’s scrimmage, catching a long pass from freshman quarterback Christian LeMay.
There’s plenty of opportunity for any of the receivers to move up the depth chart. Tavarres King is basically set as the No. 1 option, and Marlon Brown will get every chance to start at split end. But the Bulldogs like to shuttle in a lot of receivers, opening up chances for guys like Bennett, Rantavious Wooten, Israel Troupe and Chris Conley.
Bennett said his strength is reliability in catching the ball – “I don’t really drop it” – while he had a blunt assessment of the rest of his game.
“I feel like I’m gonna run good routes. “I’m still working on the blocking – blocking’s not really my thing,” Bennett said, laughing. “But it’s goonna work out.”

REST???? ANYONE??!!
Some dayz it seems like the only place that you can get rest is in the greatest lobby on campus in the RANKIN SMITH BUILDING. 5minz, 10minz, it don't matter, right before tutoring you have to shotty no blitz no challengea seat and go to sleep after the long dayz we have. nice, soft leather sofa's and chairs. couldn't ask for more. Nobody understandz how tired athletes really get. we are the first students up on campus in the morning and the last to get done with athletic activities. It's crazy how hard we work and compete and go to school at the same time and take on study hall and tutoring all in one, along with learning playbooks and play scripts. this is a very demanding job!

'TWEEN THE HEDGES ON 1ST SCRIMMAGE SATURDAY IN ATHENS!
The dawgz had their first scrimmage of the spring saturday April 2, 2011 and it was a site to see. According to Coach Richt the practice was very exciting and the dawgz practiced with a lot of enthusiasm and really got after it. Some key players recognized on the offensive side of the ball by Richt were Michael Bennett WR, Hutson Mason QB, and suprisingly a walk-on by the name of Brandon Harton RB. Word is he really tore it up, hopefully could add some much needed depth to the injury riden backfield for the spring game. Richt also noted on the defensive side of the ball that Kwame Geathers really impressed him with his play and his dominance up the middle in the 3-4 defense. "Kwame has done alot and has came along way from where he was last year, he has really been an impact." said Mike Thornton. Other than that, there is nothing going on in Athens after the scrimmage but rest....Much needed rest. lol until then, peace out.
